Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu are free to vie

Friday January 4, 2013 –ย Embakasi MP Ferdinand Waititu and Makadara MP Mike Sonko are eligible to vie for any post in the forthcoming general election, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Eugene Wamalwa has said.

While issuing a Ministerial statement sought by nominated MP Rachael Shebesh on Thursday, Wamalwa made it clear that nothing stops the two controversial MPs from vying for any position.
He said recommendations by the Commission on Administrative Justice, which wants the two barred from the March 4 elections, cannot form a basis to stop the two from contesting.
ย Wamalwa said it is only the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Registrar of Political Parties that could declare a person not fit to run for public office.
โ€œSo far, there have no judicial pronouncements that have declared the two unfit to vie for the said positions,โ€Wamalwa explained.
Sonko is vying for the Nairobi senate seat while Waititu is eyeing the Nairobi governor seat.
The two are The National Alliance (TNA) party point men in the populous Nairobi County.
