Video on Who is Mohammed Abduba Dida: Jubilee alliance presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta has been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for presidency in the March 4 general elections.
Uhuru who is the Deputy Prime Minister submitted his nomination papers to the Commission at the KICC Wednesday morning.
The DPM was accompanied by his running mate former Eldoret North MP William Ruto, Narc party leader Charity Ngilu, former MPs Najib Balala, Beth Mugo and URP chairman Francis Ole Kaparo.
Speaking after his clearance, Uhuru said the Jubilee Alliance is committed to peaceful elections and will respect the will of the people.
The Jubilee coalition is now leading campaigns in Nairobi’s Githurai, Zimmerman, Kahawa West and Marurui areas before heading to Narok on Wednesday afternoon.
Little known presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba and his running mate Joshua Onono were also cleared by the IEBC to run for the presidency.
Abduba Dida of Alliance for Real Change party and a former secondary school teacher makes history by becoming the first presidential contender from Northern Kenya.
His running mate is 29 years old Joshua Odongo Onono.
Speaking after presenting his papers today, Mohammed said he does not have competition and asserted that he is well known and he need s a few days to campaign and excluded confidence that he will win the elections.
“Just because you don’t know me doesn’t mean I am not strong. I will win this in the first round.” He said.
Dida said that Kenyans should consider him for the top seat because he has what it takes to lead the country.
“I only need seven days to campaign. I have done my grass root campaign and I am confident I am the next President of Kenya,” he said.
Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) Presidential candidate Prime Minister Raila Odinga was also cleared by IEBC to contest March 4th poll.
He said he is confident the IEBC will ensure peaceful polls, adding that his Cord Alliance will conduct peaceful campaigns.
“We do not want to see a repeat of the 2007 post election violence. We are going to be very peaceful and we will stick to ideas and issues in our campaigns,” the Prime Minister said.
The PM was accompanied by his running mate, Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, CORD principal, Minister Moses Wetangula among others.
Raila is expected to launch his Presidential campaigns at Uhuru Park Wednesday the afternoon.
Raila however declined to comment on whether there are integrity issues surrounding his political competitors, but reiterated his call on Kenyans to be weary of those who were opposed to the constitution as they could not be trusted with its implementation.
Others who spoke to the press include Education minister Mutula Kilonzo, Raila’a running mate Kalonzo Musyoka among others.
Like Raila and Kalonzo, the Jubille Alliance flag bearer Uhuru Kenyatta and his running mate William Ruto were upbeat after being cleared to contest, exuding confidence that the Jubilee team will win the elections in the first round. Uhuru however maintained that he will respect the outcome of the election as it will reflect the will of Kenyans.
On Monday IEBC cleared Narc Kenya presidential candidate Martha Karua, KNC’s Peter Kenneth, RBK’s party candidate Prof James Ole Kiyapi and UDF’s Musalia Mudavadi.
