Busia presiding officer kicked out by voters

A Presiding officer in Matayos, Busia was yesterday roughed up and frog-marched out of a polling station for allegedly wooing voters to cast their votes in favour of a particular candidate.

Trouble started when the presiding officer allegedly barred some party agents from entering the polling station in total violation of electoral rules.

It took intervention from anti riot police officers from Busia police station to calm down the situation and enable voting to proceed. However, the returning officer in-charge of Matayos constituency Emmanuel Onyango, said the party agents had not been denied entry into the polling station as claimed.

“I disagree with the allegations that my officer barred some party agents from accessing the polling station because the law allows them to be present during voting,” he said.
