KENYA:ย Former United Nations secretary General, Kofi Annan, has mourned the death of Makueni Senator, Mutula Kilozo.
In a statement released to newsrooms, Annan condoled the family of the late Senator as well as the nation of Kenya for losing โa true patriot and statesmanโ.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the sudden demise of Senator, the Hon Mutula Kilonzo, and wish to express my deepest condolences to his family, and to the Government and the people of Kenya,โ said Annan.
Reminiscing on when he worked with the former Minister in brokering the national coalition deal following the 2007/2008 post poll conflict, Annan lauded Mutula for his contribution in the talks.
โWhile Mutula will be remembered for the distinction with which he served in both the private and public sectors, I will never forget the essential role he played as a member of the Negotiations Team during the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation (KNDR) process, and its subsequent implementation,โ read Annanโs statement.
Kofi Annan, who spearheaded peace talks between Former President Kibaki and Raila Odinga, is the chair of the African Union (AU) Panel of Eminent African Personalities.
Annan joins President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyokaย and former presidents Kibaki and Moi who have expressed their grief at the loss of Matula Kilonzo.
Mutula passed on Saturday in his Maanzoni home inย Machakos Countyย on Saturday morning.
