HUMAN Rights Agenda has asked the government to quickly address the plight of Kenyans suffering in Saudi Arabia.
The organisation project officer Eric Karisa Mgoja said it is unfair for the government to delay taking action as Kenyans continue to suffer in detention centre and police cells in the oil-rich Middle East nation.
โWe want the government to immediately assist Kenyans suffering in detention centres. Lives of Kenyans working in Saudi Arabia as domestic workers have turned to be a nightmare,โ Mgoja said.
Speaking to the Star yesterday, Mgoja claimed most Middle East countries have been violating the rights of domestic workers.
โKenyans have been mistreated while the government has remained mum. We condemn the inhumane treatment and gross violation of fundamental rights and freedoms on Kenyans.
Mgoja asked the government to compel all legally recruiting agencies in Kenya and Saudi Arabia to register with the embassy to facilitate tracking of workers.
โThe move by the government to facilitate visas for Kenyans detained in Saudi Arabia is highly welcomed,โ he said.
