Over 1000 Mombasa County workers have been sacked after protests on Wednesday over pay.
Governor Hassan Joho on Thursday ordered them to vacate their houses immediately as he began a recruitment process for new employees.
On Wednesday, the workers littered streets of the island town to protest delays in their two month-salary said to be over Sh491 million.
Dumped refuse
They collected tonnes of refuse from estates and dumped it at strategic points in the central business district.
The workers then proceeded to burn a coffin and effigy of Mr Joho outside the County Assembly.
The workers accused their union officials of being compromised by Mr Joho, a claim that was dismissed.-nation.co.ke
