New threat:Cord to boycott elections if IEBC reforms fail

The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) has threatened to boycott future elections if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) does not effect fundamental reforms.

Cord leader Raila Odinga on Sunday described the electoral agency as the “most corrupt and inefficient one in the history of Kenya” saying his coalition will pull out of future election presided over by IEBC.

โ€œThis is the most corrupt and inefficient electoral commission in the history of this country and we will not participate in another General Election presided over by this agency if fundamental reforms and changes are not effected,โ€ Mr Odinga said.

โ€œWe will withdraw our candidates from contesting because we either have competent elections or we donโ€™t,โ€ added Mr Odinga.

In a scathing attack on the electoral agency, Mr Odinga accused IEBC of colluding with their opponents to scuttle his coalitionโ€™s chances of winning elections.

He was referring to the on-going battle to win the Makueni senatorial seat in which the jubilee alliance if fighting to lock out Wiper Partyโ€™s Kethi Kilonzo.

IEBC last week locked out Ms Kilonzo from the race in which she was battling to succeed her late father Mutula Kilonzo.-nation.co.ke
