Repetition of the same thought or physical action develops into a habit which when repeated becomes an automatic action.
What habits do we have in our lives that we would like to change? Habit is a strong force that dominates many people, whether positive or negative.
Many times we find ourselves falling back to the habit of giving in to our weaknesses which could be selfishness, anger, fear or depression. However, Christ has power to help us break these habits and we do not have to be dominated by that habit.
The flip side is, the devil will fight us every inch for us to be dominated by negative habits. Too often, we try to practice the pattern of facing our weaknesses as sin, confessing them, asking for victory, believing we have victory but then we find ourselves still reverting to our old selfish habits.
We then end up becoming discouraged with the lack of progress and end up giving up.
What then is the way forward? To overcome our weaknesses, we need to face them as sin rather than making excuses such as โitโs my natureโ or โI canโt help itโ.
If its sin, we should confess them, ask God to take away habits that are selfish, reading Godโs word often to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and believing that with God all things are possible because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13
