Friday August 30, 2013 – Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is headed for a major fall-out over the nomination of the candidate for Siaya Governor’s seat.
This is after ODM local officials in Siaya differed sharply with the party’s top organ led by former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, over the choice of the suitable candidate to face NAPK’s William Oduol in the coming by-election.
Sources within ODM indicate that whilst local leaders in Siaya prefer former Governor, Cornel Rasanga to fly the party’s flag, the top organ led by Raila Odinga are of a different opinion, and want former Kenyan Ambassador to the US, who is also Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga’s cousin, Elkana Odembo, to replace Cornel Rasanga.

The party’s top organ argues that William Oduol is a formidable candidate and needs a very strong opponent like Odembo to contend with and not an unpopular candidate like Rasanga.
Other candidates being fronted by ODM to replace Rasanga in Siaya by-election include former PS, Kerry Orege, and former Rarieda MP, Raphael Tuju.
