Word of the Day: Jesus our Shepherd

Word of the Day: Jesus our Shepherd

At one point or another, we have been affected by depression, either our own or someone elseโ€™s. Some common signs and symptoms include feelings of hopelessness, pessimism, worthlessness and helplessness. The Bible too has some characters that went through seasons of depression and discouragement.

Elijah the prophet went through such a season. This happened when he had defeated the prophets of Baal but received a death threat from Jezebel. His hope was crashed to the core that he wanted to die. However, God helped him through this period by sending an angel to provide for Elijah rather than rebuking him.

In our seasons of discouragement, God is present with us reminding us that we are not alone. We should therefore remember that God loves us and desires to lead us to a place of rest and peace. When we find ourselves low and depressed, we should run to the Lord our Shepherd and release our burdens to Him, because God is always on our side.

“Never will I leave you; Never will I forsake you.โ€
