Kenyan Arsenal fan stabs Liverpool counterpart to death over 5-1 loss

A 25-year-old Liverpool football club fan was stabbed to death at Makutano shopping centre in Meru town by an agitated Arsenal fan after they allegedly disagreed over the outcome of a match between the said clubs on Saturday evening. Imenti North police boss Tom Odero said David Mwangi (a boda boda operator)  stabbed Anthony Mutethia on the chest.

“He was pronounced dead on arrival at Meru Level Five Hospital. The assailant ran away but his motorbike was taken to the police station by Makutano residents,” said Odero. However, reports from revellers of an entertainment joint at Makutano said the two started arguing as the closing moments of the game. Liverpool beat Arsenal by five goals to one.

They alleged that Mwangi got bitter after Mutethia started mocking him and on their way out, the argument got nasty prompting him to stab the former. “He was also drinking beer as the game proceeded and because Mutethia was also a bit drunk they could not have come to terms over their argument. This is just a game for entertainment and he should not have got so tempered,” said a reveller who had accompanied Mutethia. Police have launched investigations to establish the motive of the alleged murder.
