Word of the Day: Work Out Your Salvation

Word of the Day: Work Out Your Salvation

Someone once said, to advance ahead, we sometimes have to turn around. Many times we start off strong and energetic in our Christian walk but at some point we relax and slacken in our zeal to serve the Lord. The tendency toward spiritual decline has happened over and over from the early church to date.

An example is the church in Corinth that started off on a good start. In fact in their early days they had exercised their spiritual gifts harmoniously and had proven the genuine nature of their faith. However, Paul wrote to them in the 1st letter to the Corinthians rebuking them for a tolerant attitude toward sexual immorality and self-centeredness.

We may find ourselves in such situations especially when as Christians we prosper and enjoy the freedom from persecution. Jesus told us that we need to go back to our first love and by doing so; we will prevent the spiritual regression that comes with relaxing. Let us therefore always work our salvation with fear and trembling.

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed โ€“not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence โ€“continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.โ€
Philippians 2:12
