Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has become the latest victim of robbery after his Kileleshwa house was broken into on Sunday.

An unknown number of people raided the house and stole property worth hundreds of thousands of shillings.

The Senator was not in the house during the incident.

Nairobi County Police Commander Benson Kibui said the Senator had left the house and was out shopping at the Kasuku Centre.

“The Senator told the police that he was just away shortly and so we are pursuing the possibility that someone well known to him must have led the attackers into his home,” Mr Kibui said.

Mr Kilonzo told the police that he lost electronics valued at more than Sh200,000, mobile phones, a laptop, Sh 20,000 in cash and jewelry valued at approximately Sh300,000.

It is not clear where the Senator’s home security guard was at the time of the incident.

Robberies in high end estates in Nairobi are on the rise, with thugs seemingly targeting political leaders.

In February, Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo and his wife Catherine Maanzo were attacked and robbed at their home.

The MP and his wife were attacked by seven thugs at their home in Hardy in Karen at 3:00am. The gang was armed with crude weapons

A week earlier, thugs had raided the home of an auditor with the Education ministry Margaret Kamene Matheka at Mimosa Grove Estate in Runda and stole cash.

Several other homes in Runda, Karen, Kileleshwa and Muthaiga have been raided.

Recently, the United Nations has raised alarm over the high number of attacks on its employees and other humanitarian workers.

Police suspect that househelps and watchmen conspire with thugs and even help them gain access to the homes.
