Celebration as BitPesa Launches New Money Transfer Service in UK

Money transfer company BitPesa launched a new service with an afternoon party in London on Saturday 7th June. The event formally introduced BitPesa to the UK market and gave several Kenyans a live trial of the service.

BitPesa is now inviting all Kenyans in the UK to sign up to the service. “We think it is time for Kenyans to get a better deal in the costs and speed of sending money home. Having formally launched in the UK, we are recommending all Kenyans to sign up and start saving money” said  Charlene Chen.

The company argues that traditional remittance services currently apply a premium of between 6%-13% whereas BitPesa offers a much more competitive 3% premium with no additional fees.

The BitPesa team setup accounts for several of the party attendants. Each was given some money to send to anyone in Kenya in order to test the speed and convenience of the service. In each instance, confirmation was received from happy family and friends who received an unexpected boost to their MPesa accounts.

The event was formally kicked off by Misterseed (Peter Karanja), BitPesa CEO Elizabeth Rossiello, and COO Charlene Chen. Attendees from the Kenyan community included Elizabeth Kang’ethe, the newly inaugurated Mayor of Barking, and Janet Wainaina of UKENTV.

BitPesa has entered the remittance business with the offer of free money transfers, direct delivery to mobiles in minutes, and highly competitive exchange rates. Through cutting edge technology and intensive research on Diaspora needs, BitPesa believes their product will change the ways in which Kenyans abroad send money home.
