President Uhuru Kenyatta has said his government is committed at ensuring that there is peace and stability in the country.
Speaking on Saturday at Othaya Boys High School in Nyeri County, during the schoolโs Jubilee celebrations, Mr Kenyatta kept off politics and concentrated on development issues saying that himself and his Deputy William Ruto are committed to ensure that peace and stability in the country.
However, Jubilee leaders who addressed the gathering hit back at Cord leader Raila Odinga over his remarks on Friday calling on Kenyans to stay away from work on July 7.
Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said Mr Odinga is 20 years behind the Kenyan people.
โThe Kenyan people have already passed a Constitution to form institutions so that they do not need to go back to the streets,โ said Mr Murkomen.
He said there was a reason why Kenyans passed the Constitution, insisting TNA and URP would stay united and work together.
Mr Murkomen said leaders will not be judged by how they helped their people, but by how much they treated the minority and most vulnerable communities in the country.
He said since they formed the bulk of leadership, they must demonstrate leadership, particularly from elected leaders, so that they carry the country forward in unity.
โWhether someone comes from Nyanza, North Eastern or Coast, s/he must feel that this is their country, and thatโs why you see us resisting some people who are tribal, because we know the reason why we formed this government so that we can demonstrate a different kind of leadership, to make everyone feel that this is his home,โ said Mr Murkomen.
TNA chairman Johnson Sakaja said they will not allow Kenyans to be taken back to the dark days when the country was awash with conflict.
He called for action to be taken against Cord leader Mr Odinga for his sentiments of calling for a public holiday on July 7.
He urged Kenyans not to allow themselves be misled by few individuals.
โI want to tell them (Cord) that they will not threaten this government, they will not threaten the President, and they will not threaten Jubilee. We shall defend our President so that he can continue serving Kenyans. We will not allow our country to degenerate again,โ said Mr Sakaja.
Mukurwe-ini MP Kabando wa Kabando urged President Kenyatta to ignore what Mr Odinga was talking about and leave him to Jubilee MPs.
Chuka-Igambangโombe MP Muthomi Njuki said what Mr Odinga said on Friday at a public rally in Migori should be investigated on whether it inspired hate speech.
Nyeri governor Nderitu Gachagua said by declaring a public holiday, Mr Odinga was going too far.
โHe is inciting Kenyans, and this is how it started in 2005; we donโt want to go back to what happened then,โ he said.
RAILA MISADVISED
In Garissa, House Majority Leader Aden Duale has said that Mr Odinga is been misadvised by his coalition partners to call for mass action.
Mr Duale said Mr Odinga does not have any mandate to declare national holidays, adding it is only the President who has the prerogative to give such declarations, which should be published in Kenya gazette thereafter.
โHe has prominent lawyers in the coalition like James Orengo and Moses Wetangula who should advise him well on the Constitution,โ he said.
He criticised the planned mass action saying that it often results to massive destruction. โEvery community has a history we know the architect of mass action and their leader.โ
Mr Duale called on the Opposition to use proper platforms such as parliament and Senate to oversight the government.
