Cord officially replaces Mung’aro as Minority Whip
The leadership of the Opposition in Parliament has officially replaced Kilifi North MP Gideon Maitha Mung’aro as Minority Whip in the National Assembly.
Wundanyi MP Thomas Ludindi Mwadeghu will take over immediately, Minority Leader Francis Nyenze said in a letter delivered to Speaker Justin Muturi on Thursday morning.
The letter states: “Following a Cord Parliamentary Group meeting held on July 22 at the Boma Hotel, it was resolved that Hon Thomas Ludindi Mwadeghu replaces Hon Gideon Maitha Mung’aro.”
Mr Nyenze says in the letter that the changes were made in accordance with the standing orders, which state in Section 2 (1) (a) that the Minority Whip is designated in that position by the Minority Leader.
Mr Mung’aro has also lost his position in the influential House Business Committee.
“These changes take place immediately. Please issue me with a letter confirming the effecting of the above changes by the closure of business today,” Mr Nyenze says.
MPs who supported the decision were scheduled to hold a press conference at Parliament on Thursday afternoon.
