A pastor nabbed with a live python allegedly used to flush evil spirits out of homes was on Monday charged with the illegal possession of a wildlife trophy without a permit at Voi law courts.
Police arrested Daudi Mwanadu Kafuta, with another pastor not before the court, for contravening Wildlife Conservation and Management Act 2012.
Kafuta, dressed in his full pastoral attire at the dock, denied the charges before Voi Senior Principal Magistrate Samuel Wahome. He was released on a cash bail of Sh50,000 and a surety of Sh200,000.
Kafuta and Prophet Ibrahim, who fled, were arrested on Saturday arrested by KWS rangers at Rong’e Juu, Taita Taveta county.
Residents accused them of swindling them of their money and property in the pretext of performing miracles and exorcisms, using the snake and a chameleon to trick them.
The case will be heard on December 2.
