Names of 36 killed in Mandera attack released

The names of the 32 people who were killed in an attack by al Shabaab militia in Mandera on Tuesday morning have been released.

Government chief pathologist Johansen Oduor said postmortem for the identified bodies will commence Thursday morning.

“We received 36 male bodies and all we are doing today is counsel the families and let them identify the bodies after which postmortem will start tomorrow and last for the next three days”, said Oduor.

By Wednesday 2pm, 28 out of the 36 bodies had been identified with serious gun shots in the head with ages ranging between 22 and 58 years.

Family gathered at City Mortuary to identify bodies of the dead lead by Nyeri town MP Esther Murugi. Atleast 18 of those killed were from Nyeri county.

The victims lost their lives when members of the terror group attacked a quarry in Koromei, 15 km from Mandera town.  The gunmen executed them while they were sleeping in tents at about 12.30am Tuesday.
