Luo Nyanza most intolerant region in Kenya – Duale

Luo Nyanza region is the most intolerant to divergent political views in the country, said Garissa Town MP and National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale.

Duale said the region shows unwillingness to accommodate others even when political divides are bridged by natural events.

He was speaking in an interview on the Opinon Court segment of Citizen TV’s prime time news on Thursday.

“JJ Kamotho passed on and the funeral was in Murang’a, the home base of Uhuru Kenyatta. Raila Odinga and everybody went there, but nobody was heckled.

“(Retired) General Mulinge passed on and we went to Machakos, the political hotbed of Kalonzo Musyoka. All of us were there but we were never heckled,” he said.

“What happened when my own colleague and very good friend Otieno Kajwang passed on? We went to his house, we raised money. We condoled with the family. We could not go to Homa Bay to bury him.

“What happened to the son of the former Prime Minister? When people drive, fly long hours to condole and grieve with him, do you stone them?”

Duale said the intolerance was also witnessed during the ODM Homa Bay senate seat nomination that followed Otieno Kajwang’s death.

He also cited the chaos at Parliament during voting on the security laws.

He said Cord leaders were the ones who initiated it.

“There is a common denominator in as far as intolerance is concerned,” Duale said.
