Two politically connected men marked the holidays by going on a spending spree with over Sh30 million stolen from an NGO worker.
Brian Otiende Ayanga and Johnson Muisyo Mbingu spent a chunk of the money in Mombasa and Naivasha.
They booked flights to the Coast for Christmas with their girlfriends and rented a four-bedroom apartment in Nyali at a cost of Sh20,000 a night.
The also booked rooms in a five-star hotel in Naivasha at the same cost, and bought Mercedes Benz 320e series cars.
Ayanga and Mbingu further furnished their newly rented four-bedroom houses in Buru Buru phases five and one. The houses have expensive sofas and 60-inch TV sets.
The robbers were in a gang of four that attacked Jane Ndung’u outside ABC Place on Waiyaki Way on December 16.
The money stolen was in US dollars.
Ndung’u reported the matter to the Muthangari police station.
She told officers that she was attacked when entering her car after withdrawing the money from CFC Bank, Lion Place branch.
She said two of the thugs blocked her way using a Toyota Noah while the others broke into the car.
Ndung’u said the money was the payroll for staff of Mechem, an NGO based in South Africa, with staff in South Sudan and Somalia.
Ayanga and Mbingu were arrested by the Flying Squad and face theft charges.
Mbingu was charged at a Nairobi court last week while Ayanga case is set for Monday.
