Have you ever put on colored sunglasses? Everything you see takes on the color of the sunglasses. I was thinking about that and I remembered this story:
A couple had 2 sons, identical twins. You could hardly tell them apart just by looking. Their attitudes is what differentiated them. You see, one of them was an optimist and he saw the good in every situation.
His brother on the other hand was a pessimist and he expected the worst in all situations. Their parents were so concerned about how far apart their attitudes were that they took them to a psychologist in the hopes of finding a balance.
The psychologist suggested that on their next birthday, the parents were to give them their gifts separately. For the pessimist they were to buy the best toys that they could afford. For the optimist they were to give him a box of manure.
Well, this the parents did. When they peeped into the pessimists room, all they heard was complainingโฆ.โ I donโt like the color of this toyโฆ.I know someone who has a bigger toy than thisโฆ.and on and on he went.โ
On peeping into the optimists room, they found him throwing the manure up in the air and giggling saying โ you canโt fool meโฆ.where there is this much manure, there has to be a pony!โ
What sunglasses do you see life through? Are you the kind of person who is hard to please? One thing I have learned from this scripture is that the happiest people donโt necessarily have the very best of everything, they just make the most of what they have.
You have people in mansions with several cars parked in the garage yet they have no peace or joy. They are restless racking their brains because they want moreโฆ..they want the latest model because their neighbor just got one.
On the other hand you may have someone else living in a tiny house thatโs almost falling to the ground, they may even be sleeping on the floor but they have so much peace and they sleep well, with a smile on their face thankful that they at least had one good meal to eat.
Though I may want more, though I may desire the very bestโฆ..I am learning to appreciate what I have and to be content, I am learning to see the good in all situations because where there is a shadow, there is always light on the other side.
Philippians 4:11 (ASV)
“for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therein to be content”
Have a manure filled day!
