Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has pleaded with the members of the Luhya community to forgive him for supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta in the 2013 polls.

Speaking in an apologetic tone, Mudavadi said that even retired President Daniel Arap Moi and the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga supported the founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta while he supported Uhuru in 2002 and Raila in 2007, adding that he too deserves a chance for forgiveness.

“To understand the present and plan for the future, we have to probe the past. It is through the prodigious blunders I made that I come to you, kindly forgive me if I made political mistakes in the past,” said Mudavadi.

Mudavadi said that other Presidential aspirants have made mistakes in the past by supporting other candidates yet they were forgiven by their electorates

“If it is mistakes, we have made similar mistakes. Why should you forgive others and can’t forgive Mudavadi. Even I supported Raila, did I make a mistake? You are punishing me for no reason,” said Mudavadi.

Addressing the faithful at Friends Church Kariobangi Monthly Meeting headquarters in Nairobi after attending a church service, Mudavadi said members of the Luhya community in the past have not been able to support one of their own despite having majority population.

Mudavadi also asked leaders who have been supported in the past to be ready to support others in future elections.

In particular Mudavadi singled out Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula, former Bumula MP Bifoli Wakwoli, former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo and Water CSย Eugene Wamalwa as having indicated their ambition to vie for the top seat but all failed along the way.

“When I vied for the Presidency they claimed I was a spoiler in favor of Uhuru in 2013. In the last elections many Luhya leaders Bifwoli, Eugene, Jirongo, Wetangula and Musalia announced interest but only Mudavadi went to the finish line, so who is a weakling?” posed Mudavadi.

He said that he willingly supported Uhuru in 2002 but was branded a coward and traitor to the community.

He challenged the Luhya community to re-define and carve its political identity like other communities in the country, adding that in Kenya political branding sells candidates and every community have a political brand leader.

“My friend Raila is a Luo brand, Uhuru for Kikuyus, Ruto for Kalenjins and Kalonzo for Kambas what about you Luhyas?ย  We need to have recognition and I am that recognition,” he said.

On Eurobond saga, Mudavadi a former Finance Minister appealed to Kenyans to demand for a report from the office of Auditor General that is tasked by the Constitution to do a special audit report and table the information to the public and Parliament which will show exactly what happened.

“Iโ€™m training this government for free, stop inviting people to the treasury, let the auditor general does his audit report in accordance with the constitution and the truth will be let out, he said.
