Why Uhuru Wore Military Uniform to Welcome King Abdullah II of Jordan

jordan_1President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday surprised Kenyans after he wore military uniform to receive his Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan at the Jomo Kenyatta International Aiport (JKIA).

Going by a statement issued by Sate House SpokesmanManoah Esipisu, the President and his Majesty may have both donned in full military uniforms because they were set to witness a joint military exercise at Embakasi,Nairobi.

“After the arrival ceremonies, the two leaders will proceed to Embakasi to witness joint military exercises conducted by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Royal Jordanian Armed Forces at the Embakasi Garrison,” part of the Statement read.

In 1993 King Abdullah assumed command of Jordan’s Special Forces and became a Major General in May 1998 which could explain why he arrived in full military uniform.

President Kenyatta and the Jordanian King are expected to hold security talks on how the two countries can partner in the fight against terrorism.
