NAIROBI, Kenya, October 26 โ Kenyan Ambassador to Saudi Mohammed Abdi Mohammed says Kenya has received over Sh22 billion for development in soft loans and grants through the Saudi Fund for Development.
The envoy said that the Saudi government had funded various projects ranging from infrastructure, water, livestock as well as in the education sector with the major beneficiaries including parts of Northern Kenya, Rift valley, Coast as well as Nairobi.
Many people will direct benefit from these development projects and eventually have a positive impact and improve livelihoods in Kenyaโ, he said.
Mohammed added that recently the Saudi Fund for development gave up to Sh500 million grant for water projects in arid and semi arid regions.
The Ambassador added that Saudi scholarship slots for Kenyan students has been increased and that a larger number of needy students will have access to various universities in Saudi Arabia.
Hon Mohammed also lauded the strong ties between Kenya and Saudi Arabia which he said has led to a vibrant trade and economic relation as well as enhanced cooperation in the fight against terrorism.
