ODM leader Raila Odinga will on Thursday tour Tharaka-Nithi County in a bid to populariseย his presidential bid.
While making the announcement, Tharaka-Nithi ODM branch chairman Martin Mugambi divulged that Odinga would open Orange Party offices at Kathwana.
Mr Mugambi added that the former Prime Minister would talk to the locals about the latest agricultural methods and how they can implement them in the semi-arid parts of the County.
“He will talk on how some semi-arid regions like Tharaka could improve farming if government provides water for irrigation and improve transport system,” Mr Mugambi told a local daily.
The Opposition leader will also hold an ODM delegates meeting as he popularises the Orange Party in a region perceived to be a Jubilee stronghold.
Odinga’s tour comes after chaos emerged over Deputy President Wiliam Ruto’s statement during a tour in the region where he seemed to suggest that Chuka was the County headquarters of Tharaka Nithi instead of Kathwana where the area Governor and other officials had been operating from.
Residents from Kathwana took to the streets early in the week to protest Ruto’s statement and warned that they would ditch Jubilee for CORD if Chuka was made the Tharaka-Nithi County headquarters.
The Countyย voted overwhelmingly for President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 elections and is considered a key stronghold for Jubilee ahead of the upcoming General Election.
