Kenyan film Kati Kati has been nominated to the 90th Academy Awards (Oscars) in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
Revealing the news, the Oscars Selection Committee Kenya stated that Kati Kati had met the minimum required theatrical release time and a Red Carpet premier event.
The nominees for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced by the Academy on 23rd January 2018.
Kati Kati is a debut feature film by Kenyan filmmaker Mbithi Masya that explores the intrigues of the afterlife.
It follows on an unfamiliar subject of death where actress Kaleche (Nyokabi Gethaiga) wakes up only to discover that she’s dead.
Kaleche is however trapped at a mysterious lodge where the dead wait to transition and move on.
A second movie, Kidnapped, that had been submitted did not make the cut.
The nominees for the 90th Academy Awards will be announced by the Academy on the 23rd of January 2018.
