‘Adult-related content’: The Media Council of Kenya on Thursday reprimanded Citizen TV over questions directed to Cotu boss Francis Atwoli during a talk show.

In a letter of caution to the media house’s editorial director, MCK CEO David Omwoyo warned the broadcaster citing that ‘adult-related content’ was aired during the show.

Atwoli was hosted by Jeff Koinange in the Wednesday’s edition of JKL Live.

“The host was persistent in discussing explicit adult-related content outside the watershed hours,” Omwoyo said.

Omwoyo has accused Jeff of being in breach of clause 10 of the code of conduct. The code warns journalists against publishing what is considered obscene.

The council took issue with phrases such as ‘lakini kazi bado unafanya‘, ‘katiba bado unasoma‘, and ‘kazi unaweza‘, being a Kenyan clichรƒยฉ in debates on sexuality.

Omwoyo further avers that the show host acted in breach of the code’s clause 13 on invasion into privacy.

The code states that inquiries into an individual’s private life are not acceptable.

Among issues to be checked are inquiries into a person’s home, family, religion, sexuality, personal life, and private affairs.

The council warned of disciplinary action against Jeff and the media house.

“In the meantime, urgently furnish the council with steps taken to avoid such an occurrence in future,” Omwoyo states in the August 16 letter. BELOW IS THE VIDEO:
