Kenyans are not comfortable with the new Huduma Number. Many are afraid that it is a precursor to the 666 in Revelation 13:18. And they are right to question this registration. In the United States for example, though every person must have social security number, these numbers are not biometric. Americans would never allow the government to have their biometric information. The right to privacy protects this right! These processes are only reserved for those who want to migrate to the United States or criminals. Americans would never allow for a biometric registration. Biometric is a database where agencies can go to make sure that you are the person you say you are? The problem is that this data is used to track criminals and refugees.
In a country where corruption is ‘king’ and citizens believe and know that the police and government agencies are not trustworthy, they are right in worrying about giving these agencies their information. The question Kenyans are asking is, “why do they need this information now?” Why? Biometric is the personal identifiable information (PII) and Kenya wants even the DNA information of one’s children and ancestors.
Many Kenyans believe that giving one’s biometric information to agencies that have proven themselves untrustworthy and corrupt is committing suicide! Even the president of the republic has acknowledged that his government is corrupt. That is why he is fighting corruption. If the president himself believes that his institutions cannot be trusted, how can he encourage the citizens to trust them with their life?
You see, Kenyans are many things but they are not stupid! They see a hidden agenda that seeks maybe, according to some, an effort by certain foreign governments to have their database. Some are suggesting that this information is going to be sold to China or other countries. Are these people wrong in having these thoughts? The answer is no! The reason is because Kenyans have historically been taken advantage of and they do not want to fall into this trap again.
Kenyans are now associating the whole registration with the Biblical 666, which is the number of the beast in the book of revelation! Rumors are flying that the government has joined the devil worshipers and is giving this information out to some spiritual demonic work!
Though this is a stretch, if trust is gone people come up with all kinds of theories. But we know that digital information can be hacked and if even American OPM was hacked and information stolen of government employees. What about a country like Kenya where even today people in Limuru use Donkeys for transportation?
The government and especially the president should clean up Kenya’s government corruption first before asking people to trust its agencies with biometric information. Kenyans already have done well with their current IDs, this other requirement is suspicious and Kenyans have a right to be weary!
