Fafi Member of Parliament Osman Mohamed is wanted in the United States of America for evading a jail term, which he was sentenced in 2015.
According to reports by theย Nation, the lawmaker was sentenced to 18 months in jail over tax evasion, but evaded the sentence.
Mohamed had been charged with 32 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns totaling Ksh61 million.
He was nabbed by three undercover Criminal Investigation unit sleuths of the Internal Revenue Service who approached him to prepare their Federal Income Tax Returns for 2007.
Through his company, co-owned with Yahya Sheikh, he prepared the tax return documents, which were fraudulent with the aim of seeking tax refunds for the clients.
The returns claimed $40,000 (Ksh4 million), in false expenses and a reduced tax liability.
โThe undercover agents did not provide him with indication that they had incurred any of the false deductions that were placed upon the completed income tax returns,โ reported Federal Tax Alert, an online publication.
Upon his arrest, Mohamed entered into a plea bargain with the prosecutors and implicated his accomplice Sheikh who had at that time fled to Canada.
He would later get himself deported to Kenya as an illegal immigrant before serving his jail term. The government of the US wants him now extradited to serve the sentence.
