Sad story, Boy travels miles to commit suicide: A 14-year-old-boy has left many in shock after travelling from his home in Kiambu County to his aunt’s home in Nakuru County where he committed suicide hours after the arrival.Joseph Muturi said his son Fredrick Kibugi left their home in Kiambu at around 5am on Wednesday for her aunt’s place in Elburgon where he has been spending most of his school holidays since 2006.“Since the death of his mother when he was in Standard Four, Kibugi who is my third child has always loved spending time with my sister in Elburgon. I was comfortable with that and allowed him to enroll in schools within Elburgon,” said Muturi.

Kibugi was a Form One student at the neigbouring Elburgon DEB Secondary School and had left for Kiambu County during the brief mid-term break.According to his aunt Teresia Mugure, Kibugi arrived home in the evening and complained of having a mild headache which she suspected was as a result of the long journey from his father’s place.“After watching his favourite TV shows he said he had a headache and needed a rest. He didn’t look troubled and I thought after the rest he would be well by morning,” said Mugure.Mugure said that before retiring to bed she noticed that Kibugi had not closed their gate and lights in his separate house were still on.“It was not common for him to leave the gate open. I closed the gate and on peeping into his bedroom whose lights were on I couldn’t see him on the bed. He didn’t respond when I called him,” said Mugure.

“With a vibrant guidance and counselling department in schools, children will be able to open up to both teachers and parents. If this was out of any sort of depression he would have spoken to me or his teachers and save his life,” he said.Molo Sub County Police Commander Police Commander Isaac Odumbe said that the minor left no suicide note and the body had been taken to Elburgon Sub County mortuary and investigations had been launched.
