Mugithi artist Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, has recently been transferred from his administrative police duties in Gilgil to the frontline in Baringo County, a region grappling with severe banditry.

This move has sparked controversy, especially following his performance at a local event where he led the crowd in chanting “Wantam,” corrupted “One Term”, a catchphrase increasingly being used by critics of President William Ruto ahead of the 2027 elections.

The chant was interpreted by some as a call for the removal of William Ruto, which led to public backlash. In response, the National Police Service reassigned Samidoh to Baringo, a hotspot for armed banditry, to address the escalating insecurity in the area.

Samidoh’s transfer has been met with mixed reactions. Some view it as a disciplinary action for his involvement in the controversial chant, while others see it as an opportunity for him to contribute to restoring peace in the region.

The situation highlights the complex intersection of entertainment, politics, and security in Kenya.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja addressed the public concerns surrounding the redeployment of the Mugithi artist and police officer Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, to Baringo County, a region plagued by banditry and insecurity.

Kanja stated that:

“POLICE OFFICERS ARE TRANSFERRED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAW AND SERVICE REGULATIONS. THERE’S NOTHING UNUSUAL OR PUNITIVE ABOUT THE TRANSFER OF ANY OFFICER, INCLUDING SAMIDOH.”

Kanja’s comments were likely aimed at quelling public speculation and reinforcing the impartial and professional nature of internal police operations. Watch clip here
