On day eight of the trial, Lewis Nguyai, who was a witness for Kenyatta, testified. His testimony focused on supporting Kenyatta’s defense or providing information relevant to the charges being brought against him.

Uhuru Kenyatta was facing charges related to crimes against humanity that occurred during the 2007-2008 post-election violence in Kenya.

Lewis Nguyai, as a key witness was crucial in providing testimony that could help challenge the prosecution’s case or provide insight into the events and Kenyatta’s involvement.

His testimony about the outlawed Mungiki sect leaders asking him to link them to Uhuru Kenyatta, and later attempting to extort money from him, added a significant twist to the case.

In his statement, Nguyai implied that the Mungiki leaders were trying to use his connection with Kenyatta for their own benefit.

This suggest that certain individuals or groups were trying to exploit Kenyatta’s political influence to further their own criminal activities.

The Mungiki sect was notorious for its involvement in violent activities and extortion, especially during the post-election violence period.

If Nguyai’s testimony is to be believed, it would indicate that he had been approached by the Mungiki for help in getting closer to Uhuru, but then later faced attempts at extortion.

This might serve to undermine the prosecution’s case, as it could raise questions about the motivations of those involved, potentially casting doubt on the accuracy or credibility of some of the evidence against Kenyatta.

It also opens up a broader question about the role of organized groups like the Mungiki in the violence and the extent to which they may have been using political figures for their own interests.
