Arrowroot Thief Faces Justice at the Hands of Angry Women
In a scene that quickly drew a crowd, a man alleged to have stolen arrowroots valued at 1,500 shillings met swift and unexpected justice when he was stopped in his tracks by a group of angry women.
According to eyewitnesses, the man had been sneaking away with a sack of arrowroots from a small farm on the village’s outskirts when several women, reportedly members of a local cooperative, caught wind of the theft. What followed was a dramatic chase that ended in the heart of the market square.
“He thought he could just take what women have worked for with their hands?” said one of the women, wielding a wooden cooking spoon like a baton. “Not today.”
The women, armed with whatever they could find — brooms, slippers, and even handfuls of mud — surrounded the man and began meting out their version of justice. Bystanders stood frozen as the scene unfolded, some cheering, others recording on their phones.
The local chief later intervened, calling for calm and assuring the women that the matter would be handled through proper channels.
“He was lucky the women didn’t go further,” one elder remarked. “You don’t mess with their food — especially not during harvest season.”
