Friday November 9, 2012-News trickling in indicates that two houses have mysteriously caught fire after the body of slain ODM Kisumu Branch chairman Shem Kwega arrived at his homestead.
Mr Kwega was killed last week by unknown people and his remains were being transported to his home in Nyahera, for the burial that is scheduled to be over the weekend.
But, shocked villagers couldn’t believe their eyes when immediately his body arrived, two of his houses caught fire forcing his family to evacuate the body.
Kwega was killed in late October and that triggered violent demonstrations in Kisumu town resulting to a couple of deaths.
Regional police commander Joseph Ole Tito last week ruled out politics as motive of the murder of Kwega as riots paralysed business in the busy lakeside city.
Ole Tito said initial investigations have revealed that the politician cum businessman had 15,300 U.S. dollars which he was supposed to deposit in a bank when unknown thugs accosted him on his way there.
"The death of Kwega is not political. We have established that the victim had in possession of 1.3 million shillings (about 15, 300 dollars) which he was going to deposit in a bank when he was accosted by the criminals," the police boss said.
