NAIROBI; KENYA:ย Nairobi TNA Senatorial candidate Mike Mbuvi alias Sonko has been taken to court for failing to pay an agent for goods supplied two years ago.
Manoa Adenya Mutambi who is residing in Busia County accused Sonko of failing to pay him Sh162,200 for boxing equipment that which included gloves headgear, skipping ropes and bags but declined to pay.
Mutambi explained that following a verbal agreement between him and the former Makadara MP he had delivered the goods at the MPโs office at Buruburu on September 8, 2010 while accompanied by Vedo Okumu a coach who acted as a witness.
โIn so far the terms and condition were written the same was contained in a delivery note signed by Sonko and Vedo on the day the goods were delivered,โ he said in the plaint.
Mutambi claims that he had been forced to travel from Busia to Nairobi 15 times in an effort to collect the money but Sonko had adamantly refused to pay the debt.
โSonko claimed that the then Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta had closed his bank account on allegations that the MP was buying things for his voters at Makadara constituency. He promised to repay me once the account is reopened,โ he said.
Through lawyer Dominic Lukorito, Mutambi in view of the MPโs action he sought help from the parliament police and Criminal Investigation Department who referred him to obtain a police occurrence book (OB) number.
โI handed the parliamentary CID the police OB from the Buruburu police station but they insisted on waiting for a signal from the police station ordering for the arrest of Sonko,โ he said.
Mutambi who has also sued the MPโs personal assistant George Adipo is demanding for the money and interest at commercial rates prevailing from time to time on the said amount.
