Someone once said those that are most slow in making a promise are the most faithful in the performance of it. How many times have we often been disappointed by the unfaithfulness of people or disappointed others ourselves by making hasty promises? It could be a promised gift that never comes; a friend agrees to be there for us in season of trouble but doesn’t even call? Or others promise to pray for us when we share our problems but quickly forget our need? The list is endless and we end up asking ourselves, where can we find a faithful friend?
We can do very little about the unfaithfulness of others but the best part is we can do a lot about our faithfulness to others. Build your character by learning to keep your word. When you make a promise we must keep it no matter how hard it is. When you meet your friend who is in need and you tell them that you will keep them in prayer, follow through and pray.
One of the fruits of the Holy Spirit is faithfulness and as followers of Christ we need to display this fruit in our lives. Our God is Faithful and true to His word, He will help us in shaping our characters. He will create in us a steadfast spirit, if we take seriously what we tell others we will do for them. God will make us people whom others can count on, a person who is tried and remains true.
“He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
Luke 16:10
