The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has suffered a major blow, after one of its leaders Moses Wetangula lost his Bungoma senate seat, following a successful petition by his key political rival, Musikari Kombo. Bungoma High Court Judge Francis Gikonyo nullified Wetangula’s election, and ruled the senate contest had been marred by glaring electoral irregularities, including inconsistencies in the number of votes that the immediate former minority leader garnered. But as Francis Gachuri reports, Wetangula and CORD leader Raila Odinga have accused the judiciary of frustrating the opposition, and vowed to bounce back emphatically in the Bungoma senate by-election whose date will be determined by the electoral body-IEBC.
