Nairobi, Kenya:ย President Uhuru Kenyatta Thursday requested a permanent stay of his trial at the International Criminal Court (ICC) citing abuse of the legal justice process ahead of trial commencement.

The trial against him is set to start on November 12, where the prosecution has indicated that the president has to appear in person before the court.

Through his defence lawyers Steven Kay QC and Gillian Higgins, Uhuru said there is evidence of massive interference with the court process.

โ€œThe Defence is in possession of substantial evidence of a serious, ย sustained ย and wide-ranging ย abuse on the ย process ย of ย the ย Court carried out ย by ( i) ย Prosecution ย wit ness ย  OTP-118ย  and ย Prosecution ย intermediary , andย  ( ii ) Prosecution ย  witnesses ย O TP-11 ย and ย O TP-12,โ€ said the defence team.

Alternatively, the president has requested the trial chamber to order evidential hearing before the start of the trial to determine the issue of abuse of process.

โ€œIn ย  the alternative, the ย  Defence requests ย  the Trial Chamberย to hold ย an ย evidential ย  hearing ย  entailing ย  the ย  calling ย of ย live evidenceย  to determineย  this ย issue ย conclusively ย  prior ย to ย the ย commencement ย  of ย  trial.โ€
