โThe midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys liveโ (Exodus 1:17, NIV).
A midwife in the medical world is a specialist in childbirth. There is an urgent need for seasoned midwives in the body of Christ in this hour. The office of a midwife in the Kingdom of god is that of an intercessor. This office is as important as others in the body of Christ including pastor, evangelist, prophet and teacher. If we are passionate and desperate for a mighty spiritual birthing on earth and moves of God, then there has to be sacrifices made by the midwives in the churches of the body of Christ. Spiritual renewal throughout the earth lies in the hands of those that have a true burden to see the purposes of God fulfilled. Often intercessors will experience something similar to what a woman goes through during labor and delivery when they are praying for God’s purposes to be fulfilled in the earth. Those who intercede are like natural midwives who assist in the birthing process. The first generation of midwives in the Bible did their work in the natural. This generationโs of midwives will do their work in the realm of the spirit.
In Exodus 1 we read about two midwives, who received orders to kill the male Hebrew children after birth. โThen the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other was named Puah; and he said, “When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birth-stool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” (Exodus 1: 15&16). However, the Bible says that these two midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live. The midwives feared God and responded to the need of God; they did not love their lives more than the promise of God about the Hebrew children. Such are the kind of midwives God is looking for in this hour.
The devil has hated the male gender, and still does even today. The devil understands the role of men in church and in birthing spiritual movements, so he has launched an attack on men. He does not want men to be saved and retain their rightful spiritual place in the church, so he fights them. A high percentage of men are in jail in this generation; they are bound in various types of addictions, drugs, alcohol, and prescription drugs. The devil has pulled out all stops to keep the men bound in the kingdom of darkness (Exodus 1:10). Demons have an order to kill the men of this generation both physically and spiritually. They will do anything to stop the men from getting saved. Notice that never in Biblical history do we see Godโs people prevailing over the enemies when there were no mighty men of valor (Exodus 1:8-14, Isaiah 3:1-26, Numbers , 13:17-33, Judges 2:1-23).
We need mighty men of valor in the body of Jesus Christ. The only way for Satan to win at this war is to keep the men away from salvation. But the devil is a liar and he has deceived himself because he does not realize, count or even notice the midwives standing in the gap for the men of God. The female children were left to live because the devil’s plan was for the Egyptians to take them, marry them and have them serve their false gods with their children. Today the same trap continues in the church. Men who have no relationship with the Lord Jesus are daily slipping into the church and seducing and luring and coercing women of God into dating, courting and marriage. This happens because the Christian women have become vulnerable due to the lack of valiant men in the church. These men finally lure these women who once had a relationship with the Lord Jesus to go back to the ways of the world by cohabitation, rebellion, abortion, fornication, abuse and domestic violence, divorce and serial marriages.
God wants you and me to be midwives in the spirit. He wants us to pray and stand in the gap for the
men in this generation. God’s order must be restored so we can posses the promises of God and see prophecy being fulfilled. Midwives operate in unity, they are courageous and strong in their decision making because they rely on the leading of the Holy Spirit. They live sacrificial lives, love what God loves, and seek to see what the Father sees. Midwives set time aside to wait on the Lord. In prayer they labor with one thing in mind: to obey God even it means them risking their own lives.
God promises that His people will give birth to the plans, visions and purposes He has given them because He will help them. His Word tells us that we will have fruit from our intimate walk with Christ, and our fruit will be healthy and will multiply.
So where do we go from here? We need to develop an ear to what the Spirit of God is saying to the church today. We need to position ourselves to act as God leads us, ask for discernment to know what spirits are ruling in our regions and around our neighborhood, and know how to distinguish personal problems that come to hinder our growth in God and purposes of God and instead of focusing on them, commit them to the Lord and press on in prayer and fasting. We need to identify those that God put in our lives to labor together. Most of the times these are the ones the devil will want to disconnect you from because they agree with you in prayer. Then once he isolates you, he whips you with torment and resentment. I charge you therefore to be sober and vigilant.
