High court judge Justice George Odunga has set aside 2nd January as the day he will give ruling on CORD application for suspensdion of the new laws
CORD wants the new laws suspended pending hearing and determination of the case filed last week
This comes after the court heard from the applicant that there was no public participation in passing the bill that has already been assented to by President Uhuru Kenyatta
The enactment of the law by Parliament was marred with chaos, heckling and siruption of Parliamentary proceedings
The applicants argue that the bill is in contravention of human rights.
The applicants are also questioning the manner in which the bill was passed by legislators saying there was no meaningful debate
But the defense on their side maintained that with the series of attacks in the country, the court needs to put into consideration the fact and deny the interim orders seeking to set the law aside.
Both parties have requested the court to consider setting a bench of several judges to hear the main petition as the case is weighty and require varied options and scrutiny.
