Kenyan hotel worker in Doha honored for donating salary to Typhoon victims


onyango“Kenya native Hezron Jeremiah Onyango, who works as a laundry attendant at the InterContinental Doha The City was honored by the Philippine embassy in Qatar.

The report noted: “Onyango had donated his one month salary of US$290.24 or PHP12,924.44 to the hotel’s fundraiser to help the families of his fellow Filipino workers who were affected by Typhoon Yolanda last year.”

The report also added that “Onyango was inspired by his upbringing in Nairobi and by his Filipino colleagues at the hotel.”

Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Crescente R. Relacion presented a certificate of recognition to Onyango during the sidelines of a general meeting for hotel employees.

The repory also indicated that “for his charitable act, Onyango was honored with a runner-up award in the Unsung Hero category at the recent Hotelier Middle East Awards held in Dubai.” He was likwise featured in several local English news dailies in Doha.
