Major General (Rtd) Joseph Nkaissery took office after he was sworn in on Wednesday and told Kenyans to expect changes in the security sector.

In his first address after being sworn in, Nkaissery also supported the new security laws explaining that they were meant to fight crime and terrorism and were not targeting law abiding people
Mr Nkaissery said his ministry will ensure proper coordination in government to enable him discharge his mandate.

“As I take office today, I wish to state clearly that sorting out the security problem is not, and cannot be, a Nkaissery-only affair. It will require each and every one of us to address all the threats that impede Kenya from realizing its dream. I will need each and every Kenyan to restore sustainable security to our country,” he said.

He said he will exert his energies and experience in the military to keep Kenyans safe besides sealing all border points from terrorists.

“The new and existing security legislation and measures offer us a framework to secure the basic rights guaranteed in our constitution, namely the right to life and protection of property. It is not directed at law abiding citizens, but the terrorists, their agents and criminals, who seek to harm us all,” said Nkaissery.
