“If to manage a small county has become a challenge how can he lead the entire country?”

Hundreds of Mandera County residents took to the streets of the border town on Friday protesting over insecurity that has claimed lives of many in the area.

The residents led by local political, religious and community leaders held more than six hours of peaceful street march before giving the local County commissioner Alex Ole Nkoyo an ultimatum of two days to leave the county, failure to which they threatened to stage endless street protests.

The residents who were accompanied by 20 Members of County Assembly in a peaceful demonstration blamed the current insecurity situation in the county on Nkoyo saying that he has been defeated to contain the trend.

They held a public Baraza at the central bus park before moving to the county commissioner’s office where they gave their memorandum to the county police commander Job Boronjo.

The protestors ย chanted slogans denouncing the County security bosses accusing them of sleeping on their jobs.

Last week, the area Governor Ali Roba survived after one of cars on his security convoy was ripped off into bits by the impact of an explosive thrown at him by suspected Al-Qaeda inspired Somalia militia.

Governor Roba, who survived the fifth attempts on his life in less than a year last week while on a development tour to Wargadud, has expressed his discomfort working with his County’s top security brass on the basis that, they were taking casually the unbecoming threats to his personal life.
