Opposition Is Corrupt, Says Majority Leader Aden Duale
The opposition has no moral authority to criticise the Jubilee government over corruption, National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale has said.
โYou cannot chair the watchdog committeeโthe most powerful committee in in Parliamentโand 13 members tell you, โMr Chairman, you have serious, fundamental integrity issues,โโ he said.
PAC chairman Ababu Namwamba, who is the ODM secretary general, on Thursday last week survived a no-confidence vote against him after his integrity was questioned.
Namwamba said the bribery allegations against him were a witch-hunt by some politicians, whom he refused to name.
On Sunday, Duale said: โWe gave you opposition leaders the chance to scrutinise the government records and keep it in check. If you take bribes, questions and integrity issues will be raised.โ
He was speaking at the Islamic Centre on Nyerere Avenue, Mombasa, during a fundraiser for the construction of a mosque.
Duale said the opposition should choose a leader who is clean to chair the committee.
He said PAC has ashamed Parliament and the country.
However, National Assembly minority whip Wundanyi MP Thomas Mwadeghu said Duale was meddling in the committee matters.
In a text message, Mwadeghu said: โThe standing order is very clear on committee matters. They rest squarely on the committee.โ
