Parliament committee approves nomination of Boinett as Inspector General of Police

NAIROBI: The two House committees for the Senate and the National Assembly which met jointly to vet Joseph Boinett for the post of Inspector General of Police on Tuesday approved the intelligence officer’s nomination to the post.

The committees have tabled a report in the National Assembly and in the Senate respectively.

The chairman of the National Security Committee in the National Assembly Asman Kamama tabled the report in the House, while chairman for the counterpart committee in the Senate Yusuf Haji, laid the report on the table of the Senate.

The MPs in both Houses are expected to debate the report and either adopt it or reject it on Wednesday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Boinett to take the post after former IG David Kimaiyo quit following a series of attacks in the country. Deputy Inspector General Samuel Arachi has been acting IG awaiting the fate of Boinett.
