Mombasa police mount billboards of wanted terror suspects

Terror suspectsPolice mounted billboards of eight wanted terror suspects along Nyerere Avenue, Mombasa on Thursday morning.

The suspects include Mohamed Abubakar Mohamed, Suleiman Mohamed Awadh, Mahir Khalid Riziki, Abdifatah Abubakar Abdi alias Musa Muhajir and Hamisi Mwacheti aka Rasta aka Bilal.

The others are Muumin Abdhalla Muumin, Abdhall Salim Marumu and one whose name is unknown.

A Sh2 million bounty has been placed on each of the suspects believed to have sneaked in from Somalia.

Initial reports said they are hiding in Majengo, Likoni and Old Town in Mombasa, and in Kwale and Lamu counties.

Mombasa county commission Nelson Marwa said radicalised youths who surrender within the 10-day amnesty period set by the government will not be victimised.

More than 50 youths are expected to surrender, Marwa said during a press conference at his office on Wednesday.

“We have received information from local chiefs that some radicalised youths are ready to surrender. We assure them they will not be victimised,” he said.

He said the government is setting up programmes for all those who will come forward.

Two other suspects, Ismael Shosi Mohamed aka Ismael Mmanga and Abubakar Majani, were in a list released by security agencies after the April 2 Garissa University College massacre.

wanted over the killing of Sheikh Mohamed Idriss, who was the chairman of CIPK Mombasa branch, and other Muslim clerics.

He is also the main suspect in the killing of CID officer Mohamed Ibrahim, in Old Town, Mombasa on March 25.
