Al shabaab arrestsPolice on Wednesday morning arrested a suspected Al-Shabaab recruit at the border town of Moyale in Marsabit County and have intensified a manhunt for another five accomplices.

Marsabit County Police Commander Bernard Kogo told the Nation that the suspect, who was identified as Alex imaru, alias Warunguru, 21, had been on the police radar.

He was seized at around 7am in a lodging as he was preparing to cross to Somalia through Ethiopia, Mr Kogo said.

The police commander said detectives had been on the suspect’s trail along five others from Tetu in Nyeri County for the past one week.

The county commander said police had reason to believe that the suspect had a sinister motive in the county, adding that a search for the other suspects had been intensified.

Speaking from his Moyale office, he said the suspect was being interrogated at the Moyale Police Station to establish his mission in the area, besides assisting police to trace his accomplices.

“Today (Wednesday) we managed to arrest one suspect in Moyale and he will assist us in investigations as we try to trace the other five, whose whereabouts are still unknown,” the county boss said.

He said police had launched a manhunt for the suspects. He called on residents in the border town to be alert.
