A HIV-positive man has sought help from a Kenyan activist to get castrated claiming it will help โ€œstop the spread of the virusโ€.

The man made the appeal to political activist Boniface Mwangi via Facebook.

Mwangi later made public the appeal on his Twitter account on Friday evening, albeit concealing the manโ€™s identity. He wrote: โ€œReceived this message via my Facebook page. I have no idea how to help. Anyone? #ObamaInKenya.โ€

The manโ€™s message was: โ€œhello. am from nairobi and HIV+. Am humbly requesting for your assistance in highlighting the plight of HIV/Aids in our country and expose the exploitation that poor HIV+ victims undergo. I wish to act when the wroldโ€™s attention is focused on Kenya when President Obama visits. My plan is to voluntarily get castrated, which in a way, is a most effective way of ending the spread the scourge. Moreover, it is a biblicle โ€ฆโ€ฆMATTHEW 5:30. Please assist with logistics. Thank you. (sic)โ€.

BIBLE VERSE

It is not clear how castration will end the spread of the scourge. The bible verse reads: โ€œAnd if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.โ€ And it appears that he might get what he wants.

A man called Martin Njuguna responded: โ€œ@bonifacemwangi Hahaha! Iโ€™m your logistics guy. Refer him to me.

Mwangi said: โ€œ@TheBrooder Yes you are. I give him your number? For realโ€ to which Njuguna responded, โ€œ@bonifacemwangi For real. Can organise trip to Nyeri. :-)โ€

The World Health Organization lists just three ways of reining in the scourge: abstinence, being faithful to one uninfected partner (you should also be uninfected) and use of condoms.

However, in 2006, scientists said that circumcision can reduce the rate of HIV infection in heterosexual men by 50%, relying on results from two African trials.
