Hillary Clinton, the former US Secretary of State who is embroiled in a scandal over her email account, received an email including an article about Raila Odinga, the CORD party leader.
The email in question dates back to 2009. Odinga was then serving as Prime Minister of Kenya. The email was sent from the Eleisson, a consulting firm within the US Democratic party to Clinton. The email highlights an article about Clinton in Africa with talking points about Clinton’s trip.
The title of the email is: “damn this is good…“
The email includes an AP story that touches on comments that Odinga made regarding a Clinton state visit to several African nations.
The CORD party leader had stated in 2009 that the then US Secretary of State shouldn’t lecture Africa about democracy.
Odinga said in his comments in August of 2009: “we don’t need lectures on how to govern ourselves. Lecturing us on issues that deal with governance and transparency is in bad taste.”
Odinga made his comments only hours before Clinton arrived in Kenya.
In a section of her speech in 2009, Clinton said: “the absence of strong and effective democratic institutions has permitted ongoing corruption, impunity, politically motivated violence and a lack of respect for a rule of law. These conditions are continuing to hold Kenya back.”
Despite Odinga calling out the US for their ‘interference’ in Kenyan politics, he was among the opposition leaders that met with US President Barack Obama during his July 2015 visit to Kenya.
Obama then called out an unnamed Opposition leader who he said was ‘dismissive’ about America while he was in office but now complains about the current administration.
CORD officials refused to disclose which of the leaders had been accused of switching positions by Obama. Those who attended the meeting including Odinga, NARC leader Marthua Karua and Moses Wetang’ula.
Clinton has been embroiled in an email scandal for the last several weeks. Clinton, one of the leading candidates from the Democratic party, has received criticism for using her own email server to conduct official state business during her time as Secretary of State of the US.
