Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter has welcomed Devolution CS Anne Waiguru’s resignation, terming it as an act of God.
“Today is a very good day for most Kenyans. Because the honourable CS Anne Waiguru has taken a bold step of resigning. The almighty God who we pray [sic] has touched her,” Keter said on Saturday.
He was speaking shortly after Waiguru’s press conference from her Harambee House office where she asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to relieve her of her duties as CS Devolution an Planning.
Waiguru said she became a victim of corruption networks for her war on graft and was accused of being the guilty party while she was the whistle-blower.
“Though the experience has had devastating effects on my health, it has not killed my spirit. And I hope my experience goes to encourage many who serve their country diligently under very difficult circumstances,” Waiguru said.
The CS added that the sustained attacks on her character aimed at tarnishing her image despite getting recognition for transforming public service, had affected her health and her family.
“In view of the impact these events have had on my health, I have been asked by my doctor to take time off to recover and undertake much lighter duties for some time,” Waiguru said.
Keter had unsuccessfully attempted to table two motions in Parliament for the removal of Waiguru over the loss of Sh791 million from the Devolution ministry.
The vocal MP’s first motion failed to reach the floor of the National Assembly after several MPs who had supported it, withdrew their signatures.
Keter’s second motion was rejected by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi who said it did not meet the threshold to reach the floor of the plenary.
